Located on the Sugar River, the Dorr Woolen Mill produced woolen cloth and was an economic pillar of Newport New Hampshire and surrounding villages. Since 1867 the mill had been the uninterrupted center of life for generations of mill workers and their families. These photographs were taken not long before the final closing of the plant in 2002. They are part of a larger body of work about life and work along the Sugar River from Newport to Guild. All of these images are wedded to the narratives collected by Vermont writer Verandah Porche.
